To explore the impact of AI on culture and creativity, and to examine emerging art forms and their role in the contemporary world, the Tretyakov Gallery and Yandex launched the research and exhibition project Human and Neural Networks: Who Creates Whom?. The exhibition is housed in the New Tretyakov Gallery on Krymsky Val.
This collaborative initiative brought together artists, AI experts, and museum professionals. Eleven artists were selected by curators and experts from over 600 applicants to take part in the project.
The works on view draw parallels between bacterial behavior patterns and machine learning, and explore the similarities between the “vision” of a smart camera and the human gaze.

The lighting approach was tailored individually to each work. The goal was to preserve and emphasize the distinctiveness of each artist’s contribution, using light to bring out the conceptual core of each piece. For example, micro track lighting was chosen for the works of Kristina Pashkova and Daria Neretina, as overhead fixtures did not suit their installations.
A neutral color temperature of 3500K was used for the general exhibition space to create a cohesive lighting environment that brought together the artworks and architectural elements.
