The image of the Intercession of the Mother of God is a mysterious and tender metaphor for the maternal love of the Heavenly Queen for every person on Earth. These associations were already reflected in the church’s interior design, where the architects combined softness and strength, fragility and resilience. Through lighting, we aimed to emphasize these qualities from the outside — across the surrounding grounds.
Our key objectives were to highlight the artistic qualities of the structure, its unique spatial design, and to connect lighting with the symbolism of its architectural elements.
The lighting hierarchy is built on three levels, with the main church as the brightest element. The chapel and main gate are more subdued, while other buildings receive minimal illumination. This creates a clear visual structure that reflects the significance of each object.
Inside the main church, lighting intensifies from the bottom up, gradually shifting in color temperature from warm white to cool white (3000K–3500K–4000K). This scheme helps to enhance the vertical rhythm of the composition and highlight its upward motion. The bell towers and golden domes are complemented and enriched by a golden-hued light.
